ABOUT TRACY CARNEY

Tracy Carney graduated from Washington University in Saint Louis with a dual degree in law and social work in 2003. During law school, she participated in the Congressional Law Clinic and interned at the United States Senate. After law school, Tracy began her legal career working at a prominent criminal defense law firm in the Saint Louis area before joining the Social Security Administration (SSA) in 2011. She worked for 14 years at SSA as an attorney advisor who reviewed disability claim evidence and drafted decisions for Administrative Law Judges.

INSIDE SSA

At SSA, Tracy was responsible for analyzing complex disability cases. She reviewed medical records, work history and earnings documentation, function reports, hearing testimony, and other evidence to determine whether claimants met Social Security's strict disability requirements. Tracy evaluated cases involving all types of medical impairments—physical injuries, mental health conditions, chronic illnesses, and more. During her time at SSA, Tracy also had the opportunity to handle cases at the initial application stage as a disability examiner at Disability Determination Services. As a disability examiner, Tracy made disability recommendations to medical and psychological consultants and wrote disability determination explanations.

Throughout her time at SSA, Tracy personally examined thousands of case files and organized large volumes of medical evidence, documentation, and testimony to build complete pictures of claimants' disabilities. She developed extensive knowledge of Social Security law, including the Social Security Act, Code of Federal Regulations, Social Security Rulings, and how federal courts interpret these rules. Tracy mentored and coached newer attorneys on how to properly evaluate evidence and apply the law.

YOUR BENEFIT

Tracy’s SSA experience gives her valuable insight into how disability claims are evaluated. She understands the types of evidence SSA considers, how decisions are made, and common issues that can affect disability claims. Tracy understands the system — she has seen what evidence tends to strengthen a case and what issues commonly lead to denials. She uses this knowledge to help clients present well-supported disability claims.

HER MISSION

Tracy valued her time at SSA and the collaborative relationships she built with colleagues. However, she wanted to use her experience to directly help people navigate the complex disability system. She saw how challenging the process was for claimants and knew her understanding of the system could make a real difference in people’s lives.

Now, Tracy uses everything she learned during those 14 years at SSA to help clients pursue the disability benefits they may be entitled to receive. She knows the process can be overwhelming and confusing—and she is here to guide you through each step.
